Steve Jobs was clearly a complicated human being—so much so that people had a hard time putting a label on him. Was he an inventor? A designer? A creator? An innovator? A motivator? Or simply a good businessman? It’s difficult to define genius. I simply called him my friend.
I have heard many photographers recount horror stories about working with Steve Jobs—his need to control the shoot, his frustration when he felt something was mediocre. I have none of those stories.
These are my experiences of photographing the man who changed our modern world, and our friendship, which began during a photo shoot for Newsweek in 1984.
